On behalf of everyone at the Nicollet County Historical Society, thank you so much for your interest in joining our Board of Directors. We know that those interested in being leadership volunteers have many choices, and we are humbled to know that you are interested in us.
NCHS is privileged to gather, preserve, and share Nicollet County’s history.
We do this by:
- Curating exhibits providing access to, and interpretation and enjoyment of, our collections of artifacts and unique local stories.
- Housing and caring for an extensive collection of Nicollet County and Minnesota-focused photographs, documents, maps, etc.
- Creating educational programs that offer various learning opportunities for adults and children, including lectures, films, demonstrations, hands-on activities, etc.
- Keeping our membership updated about our sites, upcoming events, new additions to our collection, and historical interest stories with a quarterly print newsletter, The Crossing.
The following application offers us an opportunity to know more about you, your skills, your attributes, and what you would bring to our board. It also gives you a sense of what matters to us in any board candidate.
Our process aims to determine if we are a good fit for each other – your level of commitment and ability to deliver on our expectations so that we are confident that you can help us increase the scope and impact of our work. On the other side, we want to know what motivates you and how you think about our organization so that we can help create an excellent board experience for you.
Directors are expected to:
- Attend monthly board meetings.
- Actively participate in planning, governance, and fundraising efforts.
- Be willing to serve on committees if asked
- Volunteer your time and talents as ambassadors at our historic sites or within our communities.
The best candidates are those who:
- Have a passion for history.
- Possess connections that can help promote NCHS.
- Have previous Board experience.
- Are determined to make a difference in the community.
The application deadline is February 10, 2025.
Thank you again for your interest in our work and for taking the time to complete this application with thought and care. We look forward to reviewing it with that same thought and care and continuing our conversations. If you have questions, please contact the Board President at [email protected] or 507-934-2160.
